FAQs

  • All V70 PRC Brush Cutters are equipped with a bent-axis piston motor, delivering high torque and fast recovery in tough cutting conditions.
  • The V60 IRC Brush Cutter uses different motor types depending on the configuration:
    • Standard and High Flow models use an Eaton® Geroler motor, delivering consistent performance with a maximum operating pressure of 3,500 PSI on Standard Flow and 4,100 PSI on High Flow machines.
    • High Pressure (IRC-HP) models step up to a radial piston motor, capable of handling pressure up to 4,500 PSI. This design delivers more torque under load, ideal for tough, high-demand cutting jobs.
  • Both the V60 IRC-HP and V70 PRC models use piston motors, allowing them to rapidly spin up the heavy-duty flywheel, reaching full speed in approximately 13 seconds.
  • The V70 Open Front Brush Cutter delivers up to 37% faster blade tip speed compared to the V60 IRC-HF model, resulting in improved cutting performance, especially in dense brush and tall grass.
  • However, unlike the V60 Open Front Cutter, the V70 does not include a hydraulic brake. Without braking, the flywheel continues spinning for several minutes after the hydraulics are shut off, which operators should be aware of for safety and handling.

Note: The V70 Open Front Cutter is designed for high flow skid steers only and is not compatible with standard flow machines.

Here’s a chart of the key differences between Virnig V70 & V60 Brush Cutters:

The V60 Brush Cutter comes ready to operate with couplers and Eaton® hoses.

The V60 Open Front Rotary Brush Cutter can cut trees up to 8” in diameter. Cutting trees larger than 8” in diameter could damage the motor and components and lead to expensive repairs.

No. Running the flywheel system in reverse will cause the cutter to cut poorly, easily stall, and have minimal torque.

The Rotary Brush Cutter is designed to spin counter-clockwise and takes 7-10 seconds to come to a complete stop. If the flywheel is running in reverse, slow down will be much faster and very loud.

Operating the Rotary Brush Cutter’s flywheel counter-clockwise is essential for proper operation and preventing damage to the cutter’s blades and motor.

The V60 Open Front Rotary Brush Cutter is designed to rough-cut large, dense brush or trees up to 8” in diameter.

  • The V60 Open Front Rotary Cutter’s four-blade flywheel system is about 200 pounds heavier than any V50 Rotary Brush Cutter, which only has three blades. Plus, the V60 Rotary Cutter blades are double-sided.
  • The V60 Open Front Rotary Cutter’s larger motor helps the blades maintain speed through thick undergrowth.
  • The V60 Open Front Rotary Cutter is 300-800 pounds heavier than a V50 Rotary Brush Cutter, which will require a larger skid steer to effectively handle it (loader capacity > 2,200 pounds).

The spindle is the most expensive performance component on a skid steer brush cutter. It is responsible for smoothly transferring power from the hydraulic motor to the flywheel and absorbing impact that could damage the hydraulic motor.

High-performance skid steer brush cutters require heavy-duty spindles to ensure reliability and productivity.

No, but by slightly tilting the deck of the V60 Open Front Rotary Cutter forward the blades can cut stumps down to the ground.

No, the V60 Open Front Rotary Brush Cutter is not designed for finish work like a Closed Front or Floating Deck Brush Cutter, so the floating deck and rollers are not options.

Standard pressure relief valves protect the motor and the loader’s hydraulic system from damaging pressure spikes. When the maximum pressure point is reached, the valve opens to prevent pressure from rising any further. This prevents seals or other internal components from breaking due to excessive pressure.

Skid steer brush cutters are capable of throwing debris over 200 feet and can cause serious bodily harm or death if not used with a shatterproof cab.

For efficient operation, purchase a skid steer brush cutter with a cut width that is wider than the tires or tracks of your loader.

Loader capacity should also be considered. Selecting a skid steer attachment that is too wide will add weight, volume, and surface area, all factors that could affect performance.

The motor flow rate should be optimized to match the skid steer’s flow rate. These are measured in gallons per minute (GPM). Running a higher GPM than the motor is rated for can potentially damage the motor and will void the warranty. All Virnig skid steer attachments with hydraulic motors have a zero overflow rating to prevent premature failure.

Generally, higher GPM is better. Higher GPM provides more torque which prevents the cutter from losing power as easily and allows the cutter to return to cutting speed faster. There may be situations in which this is not true. For more information, contact a DTE Equipment.
