FAQs

  • All V70 PRC Brush Cutters are equipped with a bent-axis piston motor, delivering high torque and fast recovery in tough cutting conditions.
  • The V60 IRC Brush Cutter uses different motor types depending on the configuration:
    • Standard and High Flow models use an Eaton® Geroler motor, delivering consistent performance with a maximum operating pressure of 3,500 PSI on Standard Flow and 4,100 PSI on High Flow machines.
    • High Pressure (IRC-HP) models step up to a radial piston motor, capable of handling pressure up to 4,500 PSI. This design delivers more torque under load, ideal for tough, high-demand cutting jobs.
  • Both the V60 IRC-HP and V70 PRC models use piston motors, allowing them to rapidly spin up the heavy-duty flywheel, reaching full speed in approximately 13 seconds.
  • The V70 Open Front Brush Cutter delivers up to 37% faster blade tip speed compared to the V60 IRC-HF model, resulting in improved cutting performance, especially in dense brush and tall grass.
  • However, unlike the V60 Open Front Cutter, the V70 does not include a hydraulic brake. Without braking, the flywheel continues spinning for several minutes after the hydraulics are shut off, which operators should be aware of for safety and handling.

Note: The V70 Open Front Cutter is designed for high flow skid steers only and is not compatible with standard flow machines.

Here’s a chart of the key differences between Virnig V70 & V60 Brush Cutters:

The V70 Open Front Cutter is designed to rough-cut large, dense brush or trees up to 8” in diameter.

For efficient operation, purchase a V70 Open Front Cutter with a cut width that is wider than the tires or tracks of your loader.

Loader capacity should also be considered. Selecting a skid steer attachment that is too wide will add weight, volume, and surface area, all factors that could affect performance.

The brush cutter motor flow rate should be optimized to match the skid steer’s flow rate. These are measured in gallons per minute (GPM). Running a higher GPM than the brush cutter motor is rated for can potentially damage the motor and will void the warranty. All Virnig skid steer attachments with hydraulic motors have a zero overflow rating to prevent premature failure.

The V70 Open Front Brush Cutter has two motor options to match your high flow skid steer.

  • 1: 30-39 gpm flow rate (39 gpm max) – for skid steers with flow rate of 30-39 gpm
  • 2: 39-50 gpm flow rate (50 gpm max) – for skid steers with flow rate of 39.1-50 gpm

For a skid steer with hydraulic flow of 40 gpm, you’ll need the 39-50 gpm motor option and you’ll have to choose between a 72, 78 or 84 inch cutting width.

No, the V70 Open Front Brush Cutter doesn’t have a brake. The cutter’s flywheel will continue to spin for several minutes before stopping. Operators should NEVER leave the cab until the flywheel stops spinning.

The V70 Open Front Cutter can cut trees up to 8” in diameter. Cutting trees larger than 8” in diameter could damage the motor and components and lead to expensive repairs.

The spindle is the most expensive performance component on a skid steer brush cutter. It is responsible for smoothly transferring power from the hydraulic motor to the flywheel and absorbing impact that could damage the hydraulic motor.

High-performance skid steer brush cutters require heavy-duty spindles to ensure reliability and productivity. Virnig understands this requirement by using a 3 ⅜” forged spindle shaft with USA made bearings on all V70 Open Front Brush Cutter models.

The case drain connection indicator provides visual confirmation of a functioning case drain. If there’s oil coming out of th90 degree elbow, the case drain is either not connected to the machine or isn’t functioning properly. Steady oil flow coming from this line could also mean something is wrong with the skid steer.

No. Running the flywheel system in reverse (clockwise) will also cause the cutter to cut poorly, easily stall, and have minimal torque.

The V70 Open Front Brush Cutter is designed to spin counter-clockwise and takes several minutes to slow down. If the flywheel is running in reverse, slow down will be much faster and very loud.

Operating the V70 Open Front Brush Cutter’s flywheel in the counter-clockwise direction is essential for proper operation preventing damage to the cutter’s blades and motor.

Teeth are positioned between the blades and cut slightly below the blades for a more manicured finish. They can also help grind small stumps.

No, the V70 Open Front Brush Cutter is not designed for finish work like a V50 Rotary Brush Cutter, so the floating deck and rollers are not options.

The V70 Brush Cutter comes ready to operate with couplers and 1” diameter Eaton® hoses.

Skid steer brush cutters are capable of throwing debris over 200 feet and can cause serious bodily harm or death if not used with a shatterproof cab.

Options

Carbide Teeth

  • Grind stumps and mulch material for a better finish.

Pressure Gauge

  • Monitor hydraulic operating pressure for max productivity. Helps utilize full flywheel inertia and maintain high performance without going into relief.
